Hello me Hearties: Its been a nice week and hope yours has been good as well. The highlight has been a visit to us from a former Radio 2 mate Steve Madden. I found him a few weeks ago in Hertfordshire at the funeral of another of our Radio 2 colleagues Colin Berry and happily he came to see us last week. Rita joined us and I was a little worried that she might feel left out during our chat about times past. Not a bit of it - we all got on well and the lunch at our local carvery was prolonged because the service was bit slow. I suspect that may have been because pubs these days are short of staff because firms can't afford to employ so many people.
Steve is these days presenting programmes at Radio Victory in Portsmouth but looking round at most of the BBC national presenters he should still be there and be a household name. The fact that he isn't is an indictment of the BBC's daft assessment of what makes a good presenter. If it were my choice he'd be one of their peak time talent.
However, I'm still getting impatient with the "Defund the BBC - I never watch it" idiot crowd on social media.. As I've mentioned before, there are some brilliant programmes. I've recently instanced Freddie Flintoff's Fields of Dreams and it was wonderful during the week to see the return of SOS Build, brilliantly presented by Nick Knowles.
It was so moving to see people crowding in to work for nothing to dramatically improve the house of a mother and two daughters, the younger one of whom has a rare medical condition and sadly has a low life expectation. The programme reveals that , while there's a lot of evil, there's also a tremendous amount of kindness. I know that it abounds in our Harmony Night family.
Love and best wishes to you all.

A message from the BRAS Editor
Dear Friends:
It has been such an honour and pleasure to produce the Bill Rennells' Appreciation Society (BRAS) magazine for the last 24 years. We will keep you informed via the web and magazine about our Fan Club lunches around the counties.
Our first lunch will no doubt be in Greater London. We are still trying to find decent places to meet and greet around the counties. We will, as usual, use the Victoria Hotel in Canterbury as we have done over the years. We aim to have a summer party in Beckenham in July and if any of you would like to join the club and meet up with Bill and some of the listeners please contact us via radiorennells[at]aol.com (replace the word 'at' with the @ sign).
Bill and I, like many of you, have shed many tears over the dreadful loss of our beloved family programme. It is a bereavement. People everywhere are grieving over the loss of their favourite presenters. Harmony Night attracted listeners , not only in the UK, but around the world because there wasn't another radio show like ours. All the beautiful music chosen evoked so many memories . Now, Sunday evenings are full of boring phone-ins.
Al, Pete, Lisa and Sydney, the cheeky cat, have done a marvellous job keeping us laughing. We can't thank them enough for all their love, and yours, which has made the show such a success. Bill, we call The Master. He has the humour, wonderful voice, doesn't talk over the beginning and end of the music and is a real pro. We all love him and the crew so much....Hope to see some of you soon....
Love, Rita
